Rapidfire Plus
Rapidfire Plus has been used by mountain bikers since 1985. Rapidfire Plus is still the first choice for a wide range of driver groups, from cross-country racers to freeriders and downhillers. Rapidfire Plus is suitable for fast switching. The driver can shift down by up to three gear steps with one shift. All new Rapidfire Plus shifters, from XTR to Deore LX, are equipped with 2-way release (release in two directions). This means that the shift cable is released by pulling with the index finger or pressing with the thumb.
Instant release
The instant release switching process replaces the two-stage click and release process. With the instant release, the train is released immediately when the lever is actuated, thus achieving the fastest possible gear change. Regardless of whether an upshift with a top normal rear derailleur or a downshift with a low normal rear derailleur is to take place – a faster shift is always a better shift.
Multi release
In previous shift systems, the gear change was faster in one direction than in the other.
