Best Hiking Apps for 2024

We found this article on the 20 best hiking apps for 2024 very informative and simply had to share with our community. It comes from the More than Just Parks website and was updated in December 31 of 2023. The expert reviewers are brothers Jim and Will Pattiz from http://morethanjustparks.com. You can learn more about who they are here but in summary, they know their stuff!!! Jim and Will have spent all of their adult lives exploring and filming America’s national parks and public lands and are both super knowledgeable about what works well in the outdoors. We highly recommend that you check out their site and subscribe to their newsletter as they always have great content and knowledge to share. You can also follow them on X (twitter) @jimpattiz and @willpattiz – You can get to know them on YouTube with this short video they did on the Best National Park in America (2021). Worth a watch and we agree with them on their “best” selection…slightly biased as we are based in the PNW and love all of our surrounding national parks.

The goal of More Than Just Parks is to share the beauty of America’s national parks and public lands through stunning short films in an effort to get Americans and the world to see the true value in land conservation. These goals directly align to the spirit and goals of all of us at The Mountain Exp which is to enable everyone to get outdoors with high quality, and fair priced outdoor equipment. It is our belief that the more people get out and enjoy the vast beauty and diversity our planet has to offer in the outdoors, the more people will work to protect it.

Jim and Will do a great job of breaking down the various types of apps currently available to all skill levels including:

  • Best app with gps for hiking
  • Best hiking app for maps
  • Best free hiking apps
  • Best app for hiking trails
  • Best hiking app for apple watch

We are simply summarizing and providing links back to their site and leveraging their great table of contents here.
